The Truth About Our Physical Education History

Physical education was officially recognized in the United States in the early 1800s. Colleges and universities began to offer physical education programs in the years after 1800. Finally, in 1866 California was the first physical education mandate. Many have followed this mandate in the next 30 years. The 20th Century brought different physical education for each state. Presidents such as Eisenhower and Kennedy promoted physical education and fitness.
