Drills for Volleyball Practice - Focus on Serving

Serves Up

When looking for new drills for volleyball practice, I sometimes like to group a number of drills together that focus on volleyball drills same skills and use half the practice time for the usual drills and half for the spotlight skill. The following drills highlight serving and are a great way to improve your teams serving skill and accuracy. A good serve volleyball drills crucial to winning a volleyball game, and by running these drills at your next few practices you will begin to notice progress in your teams serving abilities.

Serving Golf makes me wanna yell Fore!

The first of the serving drills for volleyball practice is called Serving Golf. Before you get any wild ideas about nine irons and sand wedges, the game is similar to golf only in the way that its scored. Start by dividing the court into 6 areas, either mentally or with masking tape. The court division is as follows: area 1 is the right back, area 2 is right front, area 3 is the center front, area 4 is the left front, area 5 is the left back and area 6 is the center back.

The goal of the drill is to serve to each of the locations one at a time. You can either allow one player as many tries as they need to hit all 6 or else have players serve one ball at a time and keep track of where they are aiming. Make sure to keep count of how many serves it takes for each player to hit each area, and in the end add up the number of serves for their final score.

Not only does this drill build serving confidence, it also forces players to serve with accuracy, which can be a great way to exploit an opposing teams weak link, by constantly serving to the weaker player on their team.

Up nextServers vs. Passers

This fun game is a great addition to your line up of drills for volleyball practice. Though its a 1-on-1 game, by spreading out the pairs it can involve up to 6 players at once. To begin the drill, have one player stand at the end line while their partner stands directly opposite them on the other side of the net. Player 1 is the server and player 2 is the passer. A third player stands at center front by the net to act as a target for the passer.

At the sound of your whistle, the server serves the ball in the direction of the passer. If the serve is within one step of the passer, then the passer must pass the ball within one step of the target. The point distribution is as follows: one point is awarded to the server for a good serve, and one point is given to the passer for a perfect pass. After one player reaches 3 points, they switch places with the target and both parties begin the game at zero points apiece.

Bachelor Party Ideas - Give Your Buddy an Unforgettable Last Night With the Boys

Are you the best man, best buddy, or childhood friend of the groom? Whatever the case, make sure he leaves bachelordom with a bang by planning him a killer bachelor party! Even if you don't want naked women to be involved in the party (although that is the aim for most guys), you can still plan a fun, memorable event. Here are some tips about how to plan and what kind of supplies you can use to throw a party that your buddy will never forget.

Party Planning Tips

Make sure to schedule and plan the bachelor party well before the big day. Usually it's a good idea to schedule the party around one month prior to the wedding date. The bride and the families involved in the wedding won't be too happy to find the groom hung over on the big day or fighting with the bride because she is suspicious about the prior evening's events.

Good bachelor party planning will ensure that you have a smooth running party. Parties planned at the last minute tend to fall apart so make sure to prepare everything from the transportation to the food well beforehand. Have everyone besides the groom chip in to cover all costs before the party date so you aren't stuck footing the bill. You'll want to start off the night with a meal to stay energized and to offset the effects of all of the alcohol you'll likely be consuming.

Time-Tested Party Ideas

The quintessential party idea is hiring a stripper or going to a strip club. Although private, in-room entertainment is nice, it can be expensive so you may want to head to a strip club if you are on a budget. Another big perk of going to a public strip club is that the bride will be less worried about the groom breaking her trust. Not all the guys (or their girlfriends/wives) you invite are going to be enthusiastic about the presence of naked women at the party. Make sure to plan other fun activities so they still get a chance to participate in the festivities. Some other fun activities include going out for a "last supper" and playing poker.

Some fun bachelor party supplies that you'll want to consider are memorabilia such as a shot glass that says, "My last night out." The groom can wear this shot glass around his neck and he's bound to get plenty of free alcohol! Mardi gras beads are also great party supplies if you want to get people of the opposite sex to strip down without even having to hire a stripper. If you want to avoid angering the bride-to-be, don't hire a stripper and buy a plastic blow-up doll instead for innocent yet naughty fun. You can handcuff the groom to a Pamela Anderson or Paris Hilton blow-up doll at the party to score some laughs.

Other fun supplies you might want to get are games. Games like pin the boobies on the babe and playing cards picturing naked women are perfect for bachelors. Sports games are a surefire way to have a great male bonding experience. The party attendees can play sports like soccer, football, basketball, and volleyball in the afternoon to get riled up for the big party. After the big game, you can volleyball drills get washed up and reunite to head out for the night's fun activities.

In conclusion, there are many priceless bachelor party ideas that will ensure that the groom's last night out with the boys is successful. If the bride is worried, combine it with a bachelorette party. This can be a great alternative, especially if the bride's friends are an attractive bunch!

Bad Credit Student Loans - What It's All About

Don't you hate the fact that everything's getting more expensive, and that we have to student loans rabbits out of our behinds just to survive? Like getting ourselves deeper and deeper into debt, just to pay what is due to keep our heads above the water. The rising costs of our children's/your education is becoming unbearable as well, to the point where it feels like they're grabbing us by the necks to squeeze out every last dime we've got - but hey, that's how it is, and complaining won't be making it better anytime soon. So instead of getting all worked up and blowing a couple of your fuses, "playing along" by coming up with a solution to solve your kid's educational crisis, would be the better approach.

Wonder why almost everybody you know is taking up student loans? Well the reason for that point back to what I've been discussing earlier, which is the rising costs of financing education. By doing so, you'll be able to ensure that your boy or girl graduates "safe and sound", or without any "financial problems" or hindrances. That does the trick, for the duration he's going to school, but he's not just going to take out one loan, but several. One giant loan doesn't cover all the expenses that'll be occurring during his schooling days, there'll come the time when he'll need to take up another, and another, and so on so forth.

Not paying any of these on time can result to him having bad credit, which can be a problem, why? Because student loan companies can be hesitant when it comes to lending somebody they can't trust completely. Having bad credit history would increase the odds of your child not getting approved for the loan, which can spell "doom" him - so what to do now? Here's one way you can go about it: bad credit student loan consolidation. The process of how this works is no different from debt consolidation, which is involves the student loans of a student loan consolidation company.

These are the guys you go to when you get "harassed" by the people you've borrowed from. What happens here is that you consolidate or put all the loans you've taken up, and "pack" them all into one big bundle. Bad credit student loan consolidation allows you to deal with paying off what you owe in a more consistent and convenient manner - why is this so? Because the company you've "signed up" makes all those loans go away (by paying for them), and then issues one, just one, in which you'll be obligated to pay them instead. Installments are usually monthly payments.

This also means you'll be given a brand new deadline to comply with, giving you more time to get the company off your back. All of this does sound too good to be true, so now you're probably wondering what the catch here is, and it's: due to your reputation of credit worthiness plus all the help they've extended, they'll charge you a little more than what you were to pay if you didn't enlist their aid. But nevertheless, it's still a good option for any student with bad credit student loans on their shoulders.

Preventing Eating Disorders in Gymnasts

Prevention is the best way to halt disordered eating in its tracks, and the first item on the agenda is education. Athletes, parents, coaches, sports administrators, training staff and doctors need to be extensively informed about the risks and warning signs of disordered eating. The warning signs of an eating disorder are:

1.) An obsession with food, calories and weight.

2.) Constant vocal concern that one is fat, despite an average or below average body weight.

3.) Continuous and increased criticism of one's body.

4.) Secretly obtaining and consuming food.

5.) Feasting on huge amounts of food and then leaving to go to the bathroom.

6.) Eating large quantities of food contradictory with one's weight.

7.) Bloodshot eyes, particularly after exiting the bathroom.

8.) Enlarged parotid glands located at the angle of the jaw, giving the appearance of a chipmunk.

9.) Throwing up, or the smell of vomit in the bathroom.

10.) Weight going up and down over a short period of time.

11.) Severely limiting calorie intake.

12.) Undue use of laxatives, even when unnecessary.

13.) Excessive exercise even when not included in the athlete's training.

14.) Refraining from eating in front of other people.

15.) Constantly making disparaging comments about oneself immediately after eating.

16.) Wearing loose and shapeless garments.

17.) Moodiness

18.) Extreme interest in other people's eating habits.

19.) Too much consumption of water or diet soda.

If you become aware that your child or someone else may have an eating disorder, you have to approach the situation with a lot of tack. Anorexia or bulimia sufferers will most often than not, vehemently deny that there is something wrong, and that they have a problem. Let her know that you are worried about her symptoms of dizziness, constant fatigue and frequent distractedness. Use these symptoms as a way for her to seek help. Don't mention anything relating to bingeing or purging, or even eating disorders. Stress instead on your concern about their physical and mental health. Provide her with sources where she could seek professional assistance. A gymnast may deny that she has a problem, but inside she may be pleading for help.

Where and How to Get Help

Consult with your doctor about clinics or hospitals in your area which specialize in the treatment of eating disorders. You may require both medical and psychological help, and engage in therapy with the whole family. You may also look at these resources:

1.) The Eating Disorders Association, Sackville Place, 44 Magdalen Street, Norwich, Norfolk NR3lJE. Telephone (0603) 621414. This is an umbrella organization which coordinates with a network of local groups run by former sufferers of anorexia and bulimia. It provides information, telephone help, and a newsletter. Send a sae for details of local groups.

2.) Overeaters Anonymous, PO Box 19, Stratford, Manchester M32 9EB. A self-help organization for men and women with eating disorders that makes use of a "12-step" recovery program patterned after Alcoholics Anonymous. They can put you in touch with the nearest of more than 100 groups nationwide.

There continues to be an increase in eating disorders among athletes, particularly among those who participate in sports that require a slight physique. Sports with a higher incidence of eating disorders include figure skating, gymnastics, dancing and synchronized swimming, as compared to that of basketball, volleyball and skiing. In a study undertaken by the American College of Sports Medicine in 1992, 62% of females in sports like gymnastics and figure skating had eating disorders.

Due to a desire to be thin, or to gain the approval of judges or their coach, many female athletes succumb to eating disorders. A majority of coaches can trigger the advent eating disorders by criticizing the athlete's weight, or pressuring them to take off some pounds. This type of treatment results in the athlete resorting to unhealthy eating habits and crash diets which may have adverse effects both physically and emotionally.

Athletes are under constant pressure to remain thin, especially in sports which specialized in aesthetic and technical skills. This is because most judges consider body weight as one of the factors in deciding aesthetic score. volleyball drills Henrich, a world class gymnast, was once criticized by a judged in a 1998 Budapest competition, as being too fat and needed to lose weight in order to make the Olympic team. Henrich turned to anorexia and bulimia as a way to lose weight. At one point, she volleyball drills weighed a mere 47 lbs. Eventually, her eating disorders caused her death. Christy Henrich succumbed to multiple organ failure on July 26, 1994 at the age of 22.

Having an eating disorder poses a danger to athletes as they are more prone to acquire medical complications like electrolyte imbalances and cardiac arrhythmias. A very minimal calorie intake coupled with strenuous physical activities puts their bodies through considerable stress. Like Christy Henrich, they are at higher risk for cardiac arrest. It is difficult trying to convince gymnasts to acknowledge that they have eating disorders because they view extreme loss of weight as beneficial to their athletic performance.

Looking at gymnasts body sizes through the years, the dramatic plunge in weight and body mass went from a standard height of 5'3" and a weight of 105 lbs. in 1976, to a staggeringly stunted 4'8" and 88 lbs. in 1992. It is fortunate that the organizations heading international gymnastics have set out to contain this alarming trend. They have decreed that 16 is the minimum age for girls to participate in International Gymnastics. At present, girls in competition have healthier weights and mass.

The need to educate parents, coaches and trainers becomes even more apparent, as they need to be aware whether the child has developed an unhealthy obsession towards food, dieting and excessive exercising going beyond the call of her sport.

Part of the gymnastics training program should involve lecture sessions given by nutritionists to educate the young athletes on proper nutrition and why eating healthy is necessary to fuel a body undergoing such strenuous activities. It is also crucial that gymnasts who already have eating disorders are encouraged and supported to seek help, and that counseling be available to them when they do. Gymnasts who suffer from eating disorders need the assurance that they will not be subject to criticism or disparaging treatment if they come forward and acknowledge their need for help.

Volleyball is one of the most energetic sports. In volleyball there are typically six players in one team. There are two teams playing against each other. Each team has three players in the front and three players at the back of the court. In between the two teams there are high nets to separate them. The teams use their hands and arms to hit the ball back and forth over the net. The ball should not fall on the ground.

Volleyball can be played indoors as well as outdoors on a rectangular court. The field is divided into two equal half-courts. The rules of volleyball are fairly simple. There are six players on each side. The server of the ball should serve from a line on the court called the restraining line or the end line. It is necessary that the ball is clearly visible to the opponents before the serve. The ball may be served overhand or underhand. The served ball may graze the net and fall to the other side for a point. The maximum hits allowed per side are three. A single player cannot hit the ball twice in succession. If so, it is considered to be a foul. The ball may be played off the net throughout a volley and on serve. A permissible hit is contact with the ball by a player body above and together with the waist, which does not permit the ball to perceptibly come to a rest. If two or more players contact the ball concurrently, it is considered one play and the players concerned may not partake in the next play. A player must not attack a serve. Switching positions will be allowed only between front line players and that also after the serve.

The scoring of the game is also quite simple. Rally scoring is used in volleyball. The game of volleyball is typically played to twenty five points. There will be a point scored on every score of the ball. Scores will count on a defence miss or out of bounds hit. Defense will score on an offensive miss, out of bounds hit, or serve into the net.

Beach bikini watching is just one example of a fun stag do activity that a professional tour operator can help you arrange.
